The Opportunity

Our Client is a Government entity who are seeking an experienced and knowledgeable safety professional who can drive results in a complex and layered service environment.

This is a real opportunity to make a difference in an organisation that contributes significantly to the wider Queensland community. You will play a key role in achieving enhanced Safety as part of the organisation’s proactive safety culture.

You will apply your well-developed skills to contribute to the continuous improvement of the WHS management system (WHSMS) as well as the delivery of capability training. In addition you will be instrumental in the delivery of compliance and assurance programs to support improvements across WHS functions.
As a skilled practitioner, you would be able to effectively partner with a wide range of stakeholders and lead your team to innovate and lift both safety performance and capability.

Key Accountabilities
The core capability requirements for this role are:
• Support the Principal Safety Governance Advisor to develop and implement governance frameworks and policies to facilitate the delivery of WHS functions
• Identify the capability and training required to support the Safety Governance Team.
• Plan, coordinate and deliver both training and compliance / assurance programs to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Safety Governance team
• Research, develop and implement systems and initiatives, practices and policies relating to work health and safety to support the corporate health and safety management system framework
• Prepare high-level advice, reports, submissions briefing materials and correspondence for senior management.
• Provide quality WHS advice to all levels of management and health and safety advisors, including guidance on WHSMS requirements including compliance and assurance audits
• Work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and liaise and negotiate with staff in the health and safety consultative network and other internal and external stakeholders.

Role Requirements
Qualification
• Certificate IV in Training and Assessment would be considered highly desirable
• Qualification as a Lead Auditor for WHSMS would be considered highly desirable.
• Established skills and experience in work health and safety preferably in a large or highly regulated organisation, would support success in this role.
• Experience in the development and delivery of capability training as well as compliance and assurance programs would be highly regarded.
• Occasional travel within Queensland may be required.
• May be required to occasionally participate in a 24-hour critical incident on-call roster.
