Safety Advisor
Permanent / Full Time | NSW Regional | Gosford and Central CoastThe Safety Advisor will be responsible for ensuring compliance with safety regulations and best practices within the organisation. This role will involve improving existing safety systems at both corporate and site / project levels, managing contractor safety and on-boarding processes, conducting audits to ensure adherence to safety standards, internal policies and procedures. Prepare and present safety shares and tool box talks on matters specific to the operations of the business and work collaboratively with site personnel and contractors to seek continual improvement in safety systems and standards across each site.
Additionally, the Safety Advisor will regularly review and update the Sinepro safety management system to enhance operational safety performance and data acquisition.
SITE MANAGEMENT, COMPLIANCE & REPORTING
- Develop a detailed understanding of the operations of across two sites.
- Promote and enforce a safe working environment for colleagues, visitors and contractors.
- Work closely with site personnel and contractors to ensure understanding and adherence to safety management systems
- Complete regular audits of contractor safety systems including behavioural observations.
- In consultation, identify and secure any necessary third-party resources or suppliers necessary to improve operations and safety across each site.
- Ensure the safe and responsible environmental management of the site through the supervision and control of third-party resources.
- Prepare reports for the Audit Review Committee meetings detailing site operational and project safety status including identification of issues of concern for action.
- Maintain and update company safety statistics
- Review Contractor tender documents regarding their safety performance and ability to meet or exceed expected safety performance during execution.
- Ensure that all people entering the site to work are appropriately inducted and trained for the tasks they are undertaking.
- Display leadership in relation to safe work, environmental considerations and ethical decision making.
- Develop and deliver tool box talks, safety shares and other relevant information to site personnel and contractors
- Accountable for leading and directing any near miss or actual incident investigations including developing corrective actions and communication of the same to staff and contractors as required.
REGULATORY COMPLIANCE:
- Stay informed and ensure adherence to all relevant health and safety regulations.
- Conduct regular reviews of changing regulations and their impact on company operations.
- Review of company policies and procedures related to safety and update as required
SYSTEMS IMPROVEMENT
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to assess current safety practices and identify areas for improvement.
- Develop and implement safety programs and initiatives at both corporate and project/site levels.
- Ensure the integration of safety practices into daily operations to promote a proactive and positive safety culture.
- Develop and deliver training and safety presentations to both internal staff and external contractors
- Identify third party training opportunities for staff and contractors that will assist improving desired safety outcomes for the sites
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- The role will be based in the Central Coast of NSW, however travel will be required to a second site near the Blue Mountains (Central Tablelands) every second week. That is one week in the Central Coast (Head Office) and one week in the Central Tablelands (LAFH).
- Accommodation is provided by the Company in the Central Tablelands.
- A company car is supplied for work related travel (private use may be negotiated).
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field. Cert IV in OH&S will be considered for the right candidate.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in a safety advisor or similar role, preferably in civil construction or industrial industries.
- Proficiency in the development and implementation of safety management systems
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong stakeholder management, negotiation and influencing skills.
- Excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving skills, and a commitment to work as a part of a high performing team.
- Ability to work independently.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft suite of software including Word, Excel, Teams & Outlook
- White Card (General Construction Induction)
- Driver’s Licence
